Running Events in Spain
Many people enjoy jogging on their own, while others love taking part in organized running events wherever they travel. The author belongs to the latter group.
With summer holidays just around the corner, many travelers are heading to Spain for its famous beaches, vibrant bars, and renowned gastronomy. But beyond the typical tourist attractions, Spain also offers a wide variety of sporting events throughout the year. Some regions host more events than others, but on almost any given weekend, you’ll find a race happening somewhere.
The author has participated in numerous races between Valencia and Cartagena. Often, these events take place in small towns that you might not otherwise visit—but that’s part of their charm. Many races begin in a quaint town square and then wind through fields, offering scenic views of the mountains or local gardens.
In summer, the races tend to be shorter—typically 6 to 8 kilometers instead of the standard 10 —and they usually start closer to sunset to avoid the daytime heat.
